Ground rule posters

Ever since my last initiative poster for hospital, i hadn’t done any drawing of such kind.
Lately, i was asked to come out a set of drawing by my fellow classmate. She was having difficulty in explaining to kids in her kindergarten to behave themselves.

Therefore, here are the sets that I have created :) It was really fun doing them.
Can’t really wait to get the response from the kids. :)

Horrible true story of milk industry?

Dear mama and papa,

If you read Chinese. Do read and consider this forwarded story by a milk collector. I have no proof if this ‘thing’ is true or not. But I am sure, in every story told, there must have a hidden truth. Just like the story that I heard from a ‘bak gua/肉干‘- the salt/sweeten meat that we eat during the Chinese New Year festival or the ‘蜡肠‘ - that we love to cook in fried rice. The manufacturer  don’t eat them at all. Why? I was told, (personally told by a manufacturer herself.) they use sick cow to produce the meat. Can’t believe me? Well, in this case, MILK the flavored milk drink that we loved-banana yogurt milk drink, mix fruit yogurt milk drinks, they are normally produce from the spoil milk. The 2nd bad milk… those can’t even make into yogurt drinks will turn into ice-cream. This stinky milk that was suppose to be thrown away!

Love Petai

Petai

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Parkia_speciosa.JPG#file

I had to confess my liking to petai. This vegy is a stinky food similar to smelly tofu that was popular in Hong Kong. You see, in Chinese, these two have the same words. 臭豆 vs 臭豆腐, the only different is that both are different medium. Petai is a wild growing fruit. Where smelly tofu is made out of soy and left at some places to be stinky and moldy.

I had always try to be careful when choosing the day to eat petai dish. Working days, Monday to Friday is definitely, NO! Sunday is a no-no too, as the stink smell will be worsen the next day.

There left only to Saturday. Petai is hard to come about. One might not be able to find it in the wet market even if you want to cook it.

Anyway, this hasn’t stop me from liking it.

Today, I’d receive a forwarding email of the fact of petai. Seems like petai is an incredibble food.
It even quote

A Petai a day keeps the doctor away.

Marvelous right?

Virus Melacca-Fever hit 40.5ºc

My Lun was sick for the past 1 week. His had high fever at 38.5 to 40.5ºc for three full days. We brought him to 3 different child specialist. He had taken Unasyn for 6 days with no recovery. Until we brought him to Dato’ Dr Vernon, with a strong antibiotic jab ,he started to get well.

The first three days were the hardest. We did not know the reason for his sickness. I had kept wondering if he had caught dengue fever. When i told doctor my concern they doesn’t seem to bother much. I was devastated, i kept scolding myself for giving Lun too much activity for the past weekend. We went to Melacca, went to Khlebang beach, to the swimming pool and rush to Genting for Jump! Theater Show. He must have exhausted. Maybe, i shouldn’t have brought him to swimming as he had just recover from flu. He might still have the virus. Swimming will just worsen his condition.

The first three days, his fever was constant high, we had to kept sponging water on his body and head to keep his temperature low. His appetite went zero and we had to force him to take water with glucose. Me and my aunty couldn’t sleep much. The medication was not strong enough to control Lun’s temperature. I ended up had to put Voren supp on his butt.

The first medication he took was from a clinic nearby. The medication was useless. The doctor didn’t even check his throat and ear. I brought him to Glenn Eagle the very next day, alas, his doc was on oversea conference and we were directed to see another specialist; Dr Iean. This doc was very careful, he check thoroughly, ear, nose, chest and everything; but I do not understand why didn’t he see the problem in Lun’s ear.

We went back to Dr Iean again on the fourth day, to show him Lun’s ear infection. His left ear were inflame, swelling, and had a lot of passes. Dr Iean freak out when he saw Lun’s ear passes. He quickly push us to ENT doc. ENT doc cleaned his ear, checked his ear drum, gave us medication and a 2nd appointment. When we went back to Dr Iean after ear cleaned. Dr Iean gave us a snear look and ask me on Lun’s condition. He suspected a hole in Lun’s ear drum. I was quite annoyed at him for giving me such an unprofessional reaction when he saw Lun’s ear. I was double annoyed when he scolded me for not monitor Lun’s temperature constantly to give him the temperature reading. He told me he had ordered me to do that which he never did at all. Anyway, i did check Lun’s temperature and just gave him whatever I’d remember. He, later ask me to monitor Lun’s temperature for 24hr, to get his temperature reading every 4 hours. At 12/4/8 o’clock and sms him the reading. He had also warned me if Lun’s temperature was still around 39ºc and above, he will have to admit him to the hospital.

At fourth day itself, Lun was getting better. At least, he ate a few spoon of porridge and played with me. Temperature wise it was as below

28-06-07, Thursday

11pm-40.5ºc (Insert Varen supp)
12pm-38.2ºc
2pm- 37ºc
4pm- 36.2ºc
8pm-38.9ºc (i had to insert Voren supp)

29-06-07, Friday

12am-37.1ºc
3:50am-39.4ºc
4am-had paracetamol
8am-36.7ºc
12pm-37.8ºc
12:30pm-had paracetamol
4:15pm-37.6ºc
7:30pm-37.8ºc

30-06-07, Friday

12:30am-37.7 ºc
4pm-38.3 ºc

His temperature was under control only with the medication. When I sms Dr Iean the reading, he called back and advice me to decide it myself if Lun needed to admit to hospital at all. I choose to wait at home as he is now getting better and i wanted to send him to different doc for 2nd opinion.

On Sat morning, we went to see Dato Dr Vernon, he immediately diagnoses Lun as chest infected. He gave Lunyik Rt Otitis threatment and and emergency letter to admit to hospital on Sunday if his condition worsen. We stop all previous medication. Dato Dr Vernon gave me confident that he gave the right cure for my son. True enough, Lunyik was better after that. That very night, he slept soundly and drank 6OZ of milk for three feeding. On Sunday, he was back to normal and only with a slight disturbance on the ear.

Today, i am back to work. When i told my friend Lun’s condition. She told me about Virus Melacca. Apparently, this new bat virus symptoms are similiar with Lun’s condition. High fever for about four days, a temperature of up to 41°C, cough, runny nose, fatigue and a swollen throat that makes swallowing painful. Lun were sick right after we were back from visiting Melacca.

Anyway, i’ve learn my lesson.

To check fever temperature every 4hrs.
No swimming during of right after recover from flu.
No pack holiday schedule for children on board.

Coughing and VICKS Vaporub 2 - The result and worries.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out
personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at
bedtime then cover with socks.
Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and
stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.

Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very
strong prescriptions cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing
and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

It doesn’t help Lun. Continue… »
