Lun was an energetics, non-stop cute monkey during his first year. At that time, he had already run in the field; in a funny big walk pattern. To him, everything in the house was so interesting. He would, in this minute playing with my keys, next trying out the shoes, climbing the stairs, pretend reading our newspapers, mimic our action and dancing on the floor along with the music.
Computer was his favorite then. We couldn’t stop him from getting it out. He had always found our hiding spot; or manage to drag us into using it with him. I took this oppotunity to use computer as a teaching tools. Make and downloaded many flash educational movies and power point cards. Lun, enjoy every bits. From little known of computer, to be able to switch on the power, understand the usage of mouse, and focus on my teaching. Fun!
Well, he didn’t stop with just computer, Forbidden items was his No.2. “Don’t touch that…” “Ouch!” CD’s broken, pots and pans drops. Ceramic bowl broken. It was all so new. I’d remember, his shock expression, when he first drop his first ceramic bowl. All along, his bowl will never break…Did he learn not to throw after that? Nope. That was fun!. He’d even use his limited sign cum body language to tell everyone about his first discovery.
When he got his first helium balloon. He shout non stop with joy. Kept flying it like kites, he would even say “mellom” mellom” even thought we taught him to say balloon. This excitement doesn’t last. The next day, his “mellom” was no longer special. Left at the corner as he had enough. And so, toys were ment for only few days excitement. His remote control car, Cho-cho train, teddy bear. These poor stuff has only limited life span. Kids need real stuff. At least, this applies to my son.
Vacuum cleaner, is in the top list of good household item in the house. He would faithfully help us doing household chores vacuuming the floor. Whenever he was bored, vacuum is what he ask for.
Teaching him was quite a challenge. It would have to be a surprise. New style daily. When i say, “Come for flash cards” He would dash to grab the thumb ring and cards. He was the teacher himself.
Washing dishes, mopping the floor, hanging clothes, watering the plants and cooking. Although his too short for most of everything. This doesn’t stop him from trying them! He cooks potatos and onions in basket along with our cooking. He scope water and pour them. Refine and mastering his skill every time he does. Before 12months, he had already helping us hanging his socks with clothes pegs.
His locomotive and finger play is very good. He could mimic our action right after we had done them. Dancing, picking up things, exercise, holding pencil, pouring cups, turn on the taps etc. Nothing was too challenging for him.
Although he could do many amazing stuff. But he wouldn’t start learning to talk. He took us a months to a year to teach him to say “阿公”Ah Gong and “阿爸” Ah Pa. When he finally say them, he join the two words into one. They become “爸公”BaGong. He would use them often. Giggling when we queries. He would now constantly ask for his dad and grandpa. Their are his favorite after retiring us. ( mum and grandma)
When he had finally speak. He surprise us with all words that he uses. He could differentiate two different languages for the same meaning. We would sometimes heard him call for us in Chinese. “来” .But calling for stray cats in English. “Come”.He would also used to say” Apa -lah”(Malay). Haven’t retire this word yet. I guess, we shouldn’t be too worried. When it’s the time for talking, he will surely talks. His brain can digest and work out everything.
Lun, you are my mighty boy!
