Many have heard that story telling must start young. Reading with children is crucial for their development, but how do you choose which books are right for your child? Below is tips where I’ve gathered from the net, added with my own opinions.

For newborns
As new born eyesight is ‘working in progress’ they need something bold and high contrast. Good selection are black and white illustrations with least texts possible, photos of family members, mirror, human face, patterns. ( dots, shapes, checkers) Show only single word at a time.

Babies at this stage will not depreciate your selection of books. You can also try reading them books with long sentences too. You don’t have to let him sees everything you read. All you need is to cuddle him in your lap and read him books that you love or sing songs, lullabies etc.

I remember cuddling my Lun and read him Chinese thick books. 弟子规 is one of my favorites, i even read it until i can memorize some of the sentences. This book is picture less.

I’ll have more to share tomorrow. Stay tune.
