A nice cup of Milo and a pile of newspapers is the perfect combination lunch break for me. I’ve found an interesting news about this vedic math introduce by Math Monkey. It says in the main title in光明日报副刊 (Guang Ming newspaper) as 古印度教学法,吠陀激发数学兴趣. (Ancient Hindu math teaching method, vedic match-inspire the love for math.)
So what is vedic math, 吠陀数学?
“Vedic Mathematics” is the name given to the ancient system of mathematics, or, to be precise, a unique technique of calculations based on simple rules and principles, with which any mathematical problem — be it arithmetic, algebra, geometry or trigonometry — can be solved, …
I’m not going to tell in too details as there is so much explanation be found on the net. Here is a link for you.
Now back to my experience with Verdic mathematic. I’ve remember learning it during my primary school. During that time, I was accidentally force to enter math society as my 3 choices was over loaded with students.
It was a magic ! We all thought our teacher are teaching magic instead of math.At, 9yrs old, I was too young to understand the important. I had even thought it was a cheat way to solve math. Anyway, it had help to speed up my math calculation but not the homework. Those days, we can’t pass up our math calculation with less calculation notes. We can’t just tell our teacher we can calculate by heart! That’s cheating!
Things had change, with verdic math being introduce to public, abacus calculation and other speed learning math program everywhere. Slowly, forcing the change for our education. Which I hope it does happen within this few years.
